A Disturbing Assault on Belfast City Council Workers Sparks Community Outrage
The peaceful streets of Belfast witnessed a shocking incident as three dedicated council workers fell victim to a violent attack, leaving the community in a state of concern and outrage.
The assault, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, has sparked a police appeal for witnesses, as the three workers were not only physically harmed but also subjected to verbal abuse.
John Walsh, the Belfast City Council Chief Executive, expressed his deep condemnation, stating, 'This was an unwarranted attack on three council workers, simply doing their job and delivering essential services for our city. I urge anyone with information to assist the police in their inquiries.'
Inspector Knowles provided further details, explaining that the workers were attacked by two unknown males while performing their duties in the Little Donegall Street area. The victims, who were punched in the face and neck, also suffered an injury to one of their hands.
The police described one of the suspects as a slim-built individual with blonde hair, dressed in a grey tracksuit. The incident has left the community shaken, with council workers being a vital part of the local infrastructure.
The DUP MLA, Phillip Brett, described the attack as a 'disgraceful' act, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency. He stated, 'I have spoken with the police, and those responsible must be identified and held fully accountable. It is crucial to uncover any underlying motivations behind this attack.'
Sinn Féin councillor Ronan McLaughlin also joined the condemnation, expressing his shock and solidarity with the injured workers. He said, 'This was a shocking assault on dedicated workers serving the people of our city. I stand with the affected staff and their colleagues, demanding transparency and the right to work without fear.'
