Jack Miller isn't just aiming for wins; he's targeting Yamaha supremacy in the thrilling new V4 era of MotoGP! He's boldly declared his intention to be the top Yamaha rider by 2026, a move that could cement his future with the team as the sport undergoes a significant shift with the introduction of 850cc engines. Fresh off a rejuvenating winter break in his native Australia, Miller made his ambitions crystal clear during the Pramac team launch. Beyond simply racing, he's strategically positioning himself for long-term success with Yamaha.
"It was a fantastic winter – summer for me back home! I focused on working with a new trainer, making sure I was in the best possible shape for the season," Miller shared with Sky Italia. "This new V4 presents a great challenge, and I'm really excited to see what we can achieve with this bike. My first impressions were positive, but obviously, it's still early days. We have crucial tests coming up in Malaysia and Thailand to really dial it in."
The Quest to Be the Best Yamaha Rider
In his inaugural season with Yamaha, Miller showed promise, finishing as the second-best Yamaha rider. However, he still lagged significantly behind factory team leader Fabio Quartararo, trailing by a considerable 122 points and eight championship positions. And this is the part most people miss...Quartararo had an undeniable advantage, having spent his entire MotoGP career – seven seasons! – mastering the intricacies of the inline-four M1.
The transition to a V4 engine effectively resets the playing field. This change could liberate Miller, allowing him to leverage his proven V4 experience from his days with Honda, Ducati, and KTM. Last year, he secured a commendable fourth-place finish, demonstrating his potential.
"My immediate focus is to understand the new bike and where we stand," Miller explained. "But my clear target right now is to become the best Yamaha rider. If I achieve that, I know we'll be in a strong position overall."
This ambition is intrinsically linked to Miller's desire to remain a key figure in MotoGP when the new regulations take effect in 2027. "My ultimate goal is to stay with Yamaha and be on the grid in 2027 when the new regulations come into force," he affirmed.
A Fresh Start and the Power of Continuity
Miller, a seasoned MotoGP veteran with race wins for Honda and Ducati, and podiums with KTM – all on V4 machines – understands the importance of continuity in maximizing performance, especially with a new project like Yamaha's V4.
"Starting a new season with the same crew feels fantastic," he stated. "There's immense value in consistency within this paddock. Knowing the people, their work ethic, and the overall direction makes a huge difference when you walk into the garage."
He continued, "Last year was a significant learning experience for me with Yamaha. We had some strong moments, navigated through some tough ones, but ultimately built a solid foundation. I genuinely enjoyed the challenge of adapting and figuring things out as the season progressed."
"Now, with the V4 as our race bike for the season, it feels like a completely fresh chapter. It's an exciting project to be involved in, and there's a real sense of belief behind it. I'm proud to continue with Prima Pramac Yamaha and eager to see how far we can take this thing."
Miller will rejoin his fellow Yamaha riders at the Sepang Shakedown test from January 29–31. This test offers a crucial opportunity for development and is also open to factory test riders and Honda rookie Diogo Moreira.
