Mario Kart World is a thrilling racing adventure, but these enhancements could make it even more captivating!
I recently shared my reasons for not buying the Nintendo Switch 2, but a Christmas surprise changed everything. Mario Kart World has me hooked! The game's open-world design, high-speed action, and satisfying drifting mechanics are a blast. However, having played it for a few weeks, I've started thinking about what could take this game to the next level.
1. A Costume Party on Wheels:
Let's talk about costumes! Seeing Mario in a cowboy hat is a delightful touch, but I crave more variety. Donkey Kong and Pauline deserve a broader wardrobe, and I'd love to see additional costumes for enemy characters. Imagine the fun of customizing your Shy Guy with different colors! And where are the Koopalings? I'd love to see them join the race, along with Professor E. Gadd, King Bob-omb, and Cappy. With The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on the horizon, Luma's inclusion would be a fantastic tie-in.
But here's where it gets controversial: Should Nintendo introduce guest characters from other franchises? Kirby, for instance, has his own racing game. Could he make a cameo appearance in Mario Kart World? This could be a fun way to expand the roster and keep players engaged.
2. Revamping the Racing Experience:
Knockout Tour is a fantastic addition, but the open-world focus has left some game modes feeling imbalanced. I propose a simple fix: Let players select a single traditional course in Versus mode, rather than the current minimum of three. This would allow us to master individual tracks and add variety to Grand Prix mode. And why not spice things up with a battle royale mode in Free Roam or bring back the double-occupancy karts from Mario Kart: Double Dash?
3. Expanding the Racing Horizons:
With 30 included courses, Mario Kart World offers a substantial racing experience. However, I find myself craving more. Nintendo's clever introduction of Rainbow Road as a new location outside the overworld provides a great opportunity to add fresh tracks without overhauling the game's design. A course inspired by Super Mario Galaxy 2 would be an exciting movie tie-in.
And this is the part most people miss: Why not add variations of existing courses? Mario Kart World already has multiple versions of Crown City and Peach Stadium. Expanding this concept to other levels or creating track combinations for cup and rally races would provide endless replay value.
4. Overworld Overhaul:
The open-world design is a joy to explore, but it could use more interactive elements. The challenges and achievements feel repetitive and lack long-term engagement. What if the stickers earned from challenges enhanced your vehicle's performance? Customization options and special abilities would be a game-changer. A Crazy Taxi-inspired mode, where you drive hitchhikers to destinations, would add a unique twist.
5. The DLC Dilemma:
Here's a bold statement: Players shouldn't have to pay extra for DLC when they've already invested $80 in the game. Nintendo has already set a high price for Mario Kart World, so future content should be included. If, years from now, the developers offer additional course packs for a fee, that's understandable. But for now, let's enjoy the game as it is and hope for some free surprises!
