Michigan's Transfer Portal Triumph: Salesi Moa Joins the Wolverines
Michigan has made a significant addition to its roster with the commitment of Salesi Moa, a highly-rated transfer from Utah. Moa, a former Top 100 athlete from Fremont (Utah) Ogden, initially signed with the Utes in December. However, his decision to join Michigan was influenced by the recent hiring of Kyle Whittingham as the new head coach.
Moa's decision to enter the transfer portal was driven by his strong relationship with Michigan's new coaching staff, particularly wide receivers coach Micah Simon and his uncle, defensive line coach Lewis Powell. Moa's positive interactions with these coaches played a crucial role in his commitment.
"My relationship with (Simon) is really good," Moa shared. "I feel like me and Coach Simon are pretty tight. He’s always texting me and calling me. When I committed to Tennessee, he kept recruiting me. He really wanted me there, so we’ve always had a good relationship... (Powell) is kind of like my dad coaching me. I love him, but he’s my coach as well."
Michigan initially recruited Moa as a defensive back, but he expressed his preference for playing wide receiver. Moa is confident that Whittingham will provide him with the opportunity to excel in this position.
"I guess it is more comforting knowing that I can play wide receiver," Moa said. "Coach Whit knows me and knows what I can do on offense. I feel like that gives me comfort for sure."
Moa's athletic prowess is evident in his rankings. Standing at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, he is ranked as the No. 1 athlete and No. 24 overall player in the portal, according to On3.
Michigan's strategic move in the transfer portal has resulted in a significant boost to its roster, with Moa's commitment adding to the team's depth and talent.
